What to expect
You'll be collected from your hotel and driven to Tirta Empul, where your guide introduces the temple's spiritual significance and your role in the cleansing ritual. Dress in the provided sarong, then wade into the spring water pools to participate in the purification ceremony alongside locals. The guide explains each step and the healing philosophy behind it. Afterwards, you'll travel to a working coffee plantation for a sit-down chat about local religious beliefs and a taste of fresh coffee. Travel time accounts for roughly half the total duration.
Good to know
Wear swimwear under your sarong. The spring water is cool year-round. Not suitable if you have spinal injuries, are pregnant, or have heart conditions. Infants must stay on an adult's lap during transport. Gratuities aren't included; tip your guide directly if satisfied.
