What to expect

The day starts with a 7:30am pickup and a 90-minute drive south through farmland and the quirky mural town of Sheffield before reaching Cradle Mountain's gateway. After a quick park orientation, you'll descend to Dove Lake and begin your circuit. The walking pace is steady but unhurried—it's pitched as introductory terrain, though the 6km does involve some elevation change and rocky sections. Expect weather shifts; the highlands can turn windy and cool even in summer. You'll pause for lunch partway round, usually near the Boat Shed, then complete the loop before driving back north, arriving mid-evening.
