What to expect
You'll collect from your hotel early morning and drive north into rolling countryside for roughly 90 minutes. Once in Aracena, a guide takes you through the cave system—a series of interconnected chambers with mineral-rich pools and hanging rock formations. Photography isn't permitted inside. Afterwards, you'll visit a jamón producer's storage rooms where legs of Iberian ham age in climate-controlled conditions. The staff explains the breed, feeding practices, and ageing timelines whilst you sample sliced ham. If the distillery stop appeals, you'll taste brandy-style spirits made on-site. The return journey mirrors the outbound route.
Good to know
Wear smart casual and comfortable walking shoes with grip—cave floors are uneven and occasionally damp. The caves stay cool year-round; bring a light layer. Photography banned underground. Minimum 18 to consume alcohol. Prams and pushchairs work on cave paths. Not suitable for spinal injury concerns.
