What to expect
You'll be collected from your hotel and driven to the sanctuary where you'll change into provided mahout attire. Staff introduce you to the elephants individually, explaining how each arrived at the sanctuary. The hands-on portion involves feeding the animals and joining them in mud (which protects their skin) before moving to the river for bathing—you'll be in the water alongside them. Expect to get thoroughly wet and muddy. After the river work, you'll shower and change before eating lunch prepared on-site. The entire experience is unhurried and focuses on animal welfare rather than performance.
Good to know
Bring swimwear under your clothes; you'll change into provided work clothes. The activity isn't suitable if you have serious heart or mobility concerns. Wear secure footwear for muddy ground. If your hotel isn't on the standard pickup list, contact the operator directly on 0987982946.
