What to expect
Your guide collects you from your accommodation or port in a private vehicle and drives inland toward Mount Etna's lower slopes. You'll walk the volcanic terrain with commentary on the geology and recent eruptions, stopping at vantage points to absorb the scale. After 2–3 hours on the mountain, you return to the coast and board a shared boat for a 2-hour cruise. The vessel weaves past sea stacks, small beaches, and the nature reserve of Isola Bella, giving you a perspective of Etna from the Mediterranean. Weather shifts quickly at altitude, so the experience feels raw rather than polished.
Good to know
Wear closed-toe hiking shoes and pack layers—Etna is cooler and windier than the coast below. Bring swimwear for the boat. The volcano ascent reaches only lower elevations; the optional 3000m cable-car ascent costs extra. Minimum two people per booking. Not suitable if you have serious heart or lung conditions.
