About this tour
When Charlie from our team ran Johnny's Prague Photography Tour, we tagged along with Jan Miracky, a local photographer who's been guiding folk around Prague's best light for over a decade. The 3-hour walk hits both the postcard spots and quieter corners of the city, timed to catch that golden-hour-into-blue-hour window when Prague's architecture really sings. You'll get real feedback on your camera settings and composition while following a pro who knows where the light lands. It's built for photography enthusiasts at any level—whether you're shooting on manual for the first time or refining your cityscape eye.
Highlights
- Jan steers you toward light, not just landmarks—shoots the soft stuff
- Mix of famous angles and spots tourists miss completely
- Hands-on camera-settings advice tailored to what you're shooting
- Timing catches sunset fade into proper blue hour for night shots
- Walking pace lets you linger and nail the frame, not rush through
- A non-photographer mate can tag along free of charge
- Small groups (max 3 people) mean you're not jostling for position
What to expect
You'll meet Jan and spend three hours on foot across Prague, stopping at chosen spots rather than ticking off a list. He'll point out light direction, talk through aperture and shutter speed for what you're seeing in real time, and let you shoot while he watches your framing. The route winds through well-known squares and underneath bridges, but also veers into quieter streets where the light hits differently. By the end, you're shooting into dusk and the blue hour—when Prague's lights and architecture blend best.
Pacing is leisurely; you're not speed-walking. Jan waits while you compose and fire off frames. The soft, side-lit afternoon light changes constantly, which is partly the point—you learn how to read and chase it. One honest thing: it's a walking tour, so wear shoes you trust and bring water. The route doesn't require climbing or scrambling, but you're on your feet the whole time.
Good to know
If you care about photography and want to shoot Prague properly rather than snap and move on, this lands. Jan's local knowledge means you're not fighting crowds at the same overlooks; you get angles that still feel fresh. The small-group cap keeps it personal. Your partner or friend who isn't into photography can come free, which is handy.
It's built around outdoor light, so heavy cloud cover or rain will dampen the magic—though Jan will work with what's there. You need to bring a camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or decent compact; phone photography isn't the focus). Bring water; food and drinks aren't included. The walk is steady but manageable for most fitness levels.
Wear comfortable shoes and layer up—you'll be outside for 3 hours as light changes and temperature drops. Arrive with a camera you know and a charged battery. Groups max out at 3 photographers, so book early if you want a specific date.
