About this tour

When Jake from our team strapped in for a tandem flight above Klosters, it was just him and an experienced pilot in a harness, catching thermals above the Swiss Alps. You cable car and hike up to Gotschna, then launch into a 15–30 minute glide depending on wind — no engine noise, just the sound of air and the valley getting smaller below. It's a proper rush without the freefall intensity of skydiving, and the view of Davos-Klosters and the surrounding peaks makes the whole thing feel like you're floating through a postcard.

Highlights

  • Cable car and 10–20 minute hike to a proper Alpine launch site
  • Smooth, silent glide with zero engine noise or freefall sensation
  • Pilot offers steering tips or freestyle tricks if you want more involvement
  • Airtime stretches to 30 minutes on good thermal days
  • Landing close to start point — minimal walking required
  • Harness-based seating keeps you secure and comfortable throughout
  • Spectacular valley and peak views from a perspective most won't reach

What to expect

You'll meet your pilot and head to the cable car station, riding up with them to the launch zone. The final 10–20 minute hike gets you to the spot where they'll set up the glider and walk you through what's about to happen — it's matter-of-fact, not theatrical. Then it's a few running steps and you're airborne. The flight itself is surprisingly peaceful; you're sitting in front of your pilot in a tandem harness, and the lack of engine drone is genuinely striking. Depending on wind and thermals, you might drift for 15 minutes or catch an hour-long thermal ride — Jake's flight clocked a solid 25 minutes of soaring.

If you ask, your pilot will show you how to input steering commands, or you can ask for some gentle turns and tricks. The landing is textbook smooth, usually within walking distance of the starting point. Weather plays a huge role: good thermals mean longer airtime, choppy conditions mean shorter flights. Early morning tends to be steadier.

Good to know

The good

This is genuinely accessible tandem paragliding — no skydiving freefall, no heavy gear, and the pilot handles all the technical flying. The views are world-class, and the sensation of thermal soaring is hypnotic once you're up there. Anyone with moderate fitness and a head for heights will find it brilliant.

The not-so-good

Pregnant travellers, anyone with spinal injuries or serious cardiovascular issues, and those under 12 shouldn't book this. Minimum age is 12, and you do need solid physical fitness — the hike and takeoff run aren't trivial. Weather is the wildcard; your flight length varies wildly depending on thermals. Souvenir photos cost extra. Cable car fees aren't included, though summer guests get free access with a Davos-Klosters card. No hotel pickup included; you'll organise your own way to the meeting point. Bring layers — mountain thermals shift fast, especially in winter.
