About this tour
This 9-hour guided tour from Naples traces three chapters of the Amalfi Coast in a single day: the clifftop town of Sorrento, the pastel-coloured village of Positano tumbling toward the sea, and finally Pompeii's haunting archaeological expanse with a licensed guide for two hours. You'll travel by air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver, departing at 7:30am and returning by 4:40pm. The route weaves coastal roads before descending into the shadow of Vesuvius.
Highlights
- Two hours exploring Pompeii's preserved streets with a certified archaeologist
- Wander Sorrento's pedestrian lanes at your own pace
- Positano's steep alleyways and Church of the Assumption
- Beach time at Positano's main shoreline
- Scenic coastal drive along the Amalfi Peninsula
What to expect
Start early with a coastal drive toward Sorrento, where you'll have roughly an hour to browse shops or settle into a café with views across the peninsula. The journey then descends to Positano, where narrow streets slope toward the water and the Church of the Assumption sits prominently above the beach—expect time for a dip or lunch (not included). The final leg takes you inland to Pompeii. Your guide will walk you through streets buried since 79 AD, pointing out private homes, bakeries, and the amphitheatre. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection; the site is largely exposed.
Good to know
Book Pompeii tickets online beforehand to skip queues—daily visitor numbers are now capped. Lunch isn't provided; budget separately or eat in Positano. Moderate fitness required; terrain is uneven. Prams and strollers work in towns but are impractical at Pompeii. Tips for your driver and guide are optional.
