About this tour
Trade Rome's summer gridlock for a day on Ponza, an island off Italy's coast accessible by a swift ferry crossing. This 14-hour excursion whisks you from central Rome to the harbour, then onto a five-hour boat loop around Ponza's craggy shoreline. You'll dip into secluded coves, explore sea caverns, and hear stories of the island's past from your guide. A proper pasta lunch and local wine arrive onboard whilst you float between swimming stops. Back on land, an hour of wandering gives you time to browse harbour shops or taste gelato before the evening return to Rome.
Highlights
- One-hour boat journey each way across the Tyrrhenian Sea
- Five-hour coastal cruise past dramatic cliffs and underwater caves
- Multiple swims and snorkelling in transparent Mediterranean water
- Fresh pasta lunch with wine served aboard the boat
- Free hour exploring Ponza's working fishing harbour and shops
What to expect
You'll leave Rome mid-morning in an air-conditioned minibus, arriving at Anzio port within the hour. The ferry to Ponza takes 90 minutes—bring a book or watch the water. Once moored, your boat guide will steer the vessel slowly past towering rock formations whilst pointing out geological features and local tales. Expect five calm stops for swimming; the water is cool but clear. Lunch arrives mid-afternoon as a simple, generous spread eaten on deck. The return journey reverses the morning route, landing back in Rome around 9 PM.
Good to know
Ferry tickets (€60 per person) are paid separately at the port. Snorkel gear is included if selected when booking; otherwise, bring your own. Sunscreen and a hat are non-negotiable. Infants must sit on an adult's lap throughout travel. Prams are manageable on the boat but awkward on narrow harbour walkways.
