What to expect
You'll be collected from your hotel early and driven to the Monkey Forest first, where you'll wander shaded paths alongside wild macaques—keep bags zipped and glasses secured. Next is Tirta Empul, a working temple where you can wade into the ceremonial pools if you wish; bring a sarong or wear clothes you don't mind getting wet. The Tegalalang rice paddies involve gentle walking between the stepped fields. The Jungle Swing is the physical peak—a rope swing suspended over a valley drop—exhilarating but brief. Tegenungan Waterfall is a natural pool surrounded by vegetation where you can swim. Lunch is included at a local warung.
Good to know
Wear trainers or sandals with grip for temple and paddy walking. Bring swimwear and a dry shirt. The forest is humid; start early to avoid midday heat. Monkeys are unpredictable—don't hand-feed them. No strenuous hiking required, suitable for mixed fitness levels.
