About this tour
This 5-hour private tour ascends Mount Etna to explore Europe's highest active volcano, starting with tastings of local honey, oils and wines at a farm, then climbing to 2,000 metres to walk the Silvestri Craters' rim. The centrepiece is a seated lunch at one of Etna's top historical wineries—either Cantine Gambino or Murgo—where four regional wines accompany traditional Sicilian courses. Your English-speaking driver handles transport from Taormina, Catania, Messina or nearby ports, with stops for chocolate and regional sweets woven throughout.

- Taste honey, olive oil and wine at a working local farm

What to expect
Your driver collects you from your accommodation and begins the ascent. First stop is the farm for tastings of honey, oils and other produce, plus a snack of almond paste or pistachio. Next, you'll reach the crater zone, where the landscape opens up—black volcanic rock, sparse vegetation, sharp air. You'll walk designated trails around the Silvestri Craters with views across the slopes. After exploring the lava cave, you transfer to the winery for a leisurely lunch. Courses arrive one at a time, each wine introduced by your guide. The return journey allows time to settle and chat with your driver about what you've seen.
Good to know
Book minimum 2 people, though single bookings available at extra cost. Bring layers—the crater zone is cool and windy even in summer. Inform the operator of allergies beforehand; menus can be adapted. Helmets provided for cave access. Entrance fees to certain paid areas and cable car rides are separate. Tips for the driver are optional.
