What to expect
Ben arrived at his hotel 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup — non-negotiable, they're strict about timing. The minivan collected a small group and drove to Wieliczka (about 15 kilometres south of central Kraków). Once there, the skip-the-line benefit kicked in immediately; we bypassed the tourist queue and headed straight down with our guide.
The walk is steady rather than strenuous, but 800 steps means your legs will feel it. The chambers are genuinely vast — some the size of cathedrals — and the salt walls gleam under the lights. You'll see authentic 17th-century mining tools, hand-carved chandeliers, and a functioning underground salt lake. The underground chapel is sobering and beautiful.
