Self Guided Cycle Day from Lake Pukaki to Twizel

When Alex from our team tackled this self-guided cycle, we rolled out from Pukaki Corner into one of the South Island's most striking backdrops—Lake Pukaki gleaming against Aoraki and the Southern Alps. This day ride follows the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail from the lake down to Twizel, crossing the open Mackenzie Basin tussock plains. It's a relatively gentle spin on sealed trail, suits mixed fitness levels, and the scenery does most of the heavy lifting. You get a bike, helmet, rear bag, and a shuttle to the start, then it's you, the mountains, and a few hours of pedalling through one of New Zealand's most photographed corners.

1-Hour Private Heli-Picnic Mountain top tour in Kaikoura

When Noah from our team booked this heli-picnic with Kaikoura Helicopters, we weren't sure what to expect from a one-hour experience squeezed into a helicopter seat. Turns out, it's genuinely special. You fly up into the Seaward Ranges, land at a spot the pilot picks based on the day's conditions, and eat local cheese and drinks at altitude with 360-degree views of the Kaikoura coast. The pilot talks you through the landscape — geology, marine life, township history — the whole way. It's the kind of thing that feels flash but lands differently when you're actually up there. Best on a clear day; weather calls the shots.

Scenic Horse Trekking Adventure in Rotorua

When Sarah from our team saddled up for this one-hour trek near Rotorua, she found herself winding through farmland with genuine lake and mountain views rather than the polished paddock rides we've seen elsewhere. You're matched to a horse that suits your experience—novices and confident riders both get a fair go—and the pace is genuinely relaxed, not rushed. The area feels rural and quiet, with Lake Rotorua visible across the hills and Mt Ngongotaha looming in the distance. It's the kind of ride where you can actually breathe and take in the landscape instead of gripping the reins for dear life.
