Body Rafting in the Alcantara Gorges

About this tour

Spend two hours navigating the Alcantara Gorges in Sicily via river trekking and body rafting. You'll wade upstream through a 30-metre basalt canyon carved by millennia of water flow, scrambling past small waterfalls and rocky sections to reach the mythical Cascata di Venere waterfall. After exploring, you'll float back downstream on an adrenaline-fuelled body raft descent. A qualified river guide leads throughout, and all safety gear plus equipment storage is provided.

What to expect

Start by heading upstream through the gorge with your guide, clambering over boulders and working past minor rapids and cascades. The canyon walls rise steeply on either side, and the water is cool. The going is steady rather than technical—scrambling and wading, nothing requiring climbing skills. Once you reach Cascata di Venere, you'll have brief time to take it in before the return journey. The descent via body raft is where the pace picks up; you'll float and swim downstream with the current, using your buoyancy aid and listening to your guide's calls through the faster sections.
